Directors Arcand, Leconte honoured with France-Canada cultural prize

Quebec director Denys Arcand and French filmmaker Patrice Leconte will be honoured Monday with the Samuel de Champlain cultural prize.

The annual prize from the France-Canada Institute is given to figures from the fields of writing, film, theatre or other cultural fields who have contributed to understanding between the French and Canadian cultures.

The institute praised Arcand for the dark and cynical view of the world he portrays in films such as The Barbarian Invasions and Days of Darkness.
