Biden's star ascendant after stellar performance

Before Joe Biden took the podium at a deployment ceremony yesterday to send his son off to war in Iraq, the Democratic vice-presidential candidate was told, “Dad, keep it short. We're in formation.”

A day after his performance in the vice-presidential debates, the Delaware senator also found himself back on centre stage of the presidential campaign, having reminded people that he is more than a man who occasionally rambles on, and having shaken up the formation of the election's major players.

Since being chosen as Barack Obama's running mate, Mr. Biden has operated largely under the radar, unable to break into an electoral narrative dominated by two unique presidential candidates and the polarizing figure of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.
