Three dead, two critically injured in Langley workplace accident

Family members gathered to kneel and pray at a Langley mushroom farm Friday night where three workers died and three others were seriously injured after inhaling toxic gas.

Dozens of police, firefighters and paramedics were called to Farmers Fresh Mushrooms Inc. at 23751 16th Ave. at about 5:30 p.m. on reports of an industrial accident. When they arrived, they found one man dead outside a pumphouse at the back of the 7.8-hectare property, with four others inside. A sixth worker was found nearby.

Two workers were taken by air ambulance to Royal Columbian Hospital where they remain in critical condition, Langley RCMP Cpl. Peter Thiessen said. A third is in stable condition in a Langley-area hospital.
