MAPLE RIDGE, B.C. - The RCMP laid eight criminal charges Saturday against a 51-year-old B.C. man whose pickup truck slammed into a sushi restaurant killing two and injuring six others.

Brian Craig Irving of Maple Ridge has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder and six counts of attempted murder, said Cpl. Dale Carr of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, a joint RCMP and municipal police squad. Irving is scheduled to appear in Coquitlam provincial court on Tuesday.

Police also identified the two women who died in Thursday night's crash at Halu Sushi: Simon Fraser University student Maija-Liisa Corbett, 19, and Hyeshim Oh, 46, both of Maple Ridge.
